Seven and nine years among the Camanches and Apaches

I think it must be fiction
I am only a third of the way thru this book and already I think most if not all of it is the imagination of Eastman. Some of the evidence I'm going by is that he was supposedly captured by Comanches (which is misspelled "Camanches" on the cover). He gives no year in the few dates written. Also many of the Indians habits don't match anything I've ever read about Comanches during this time period which I am guessing is around 1850-1860. The only evidence is in his describing of checking the caps on their weapons just before a fight with the Indians. Also the dwellings he describes of these Comanches are conveyed as like stucco, pyramid in shape, and sometimes two stories, lying in an idylic high valley with only two narrow entrances. He goes on to say the valley is surrounded by white crystal like rock cliffs that give off prism like colors all about the village. And that part of the tortures suffered by him and other captives included running a gautlet of some 300yds (sounds like eastern tribes to me). He also describes the natives as having an Aztec like culture.

Manipulated and Disappointed
After plodding through some hundreds of pages wondering when the story would begin, this was easy to leave less than 100 pages short of the end. How did I last that long? As yet another Lonesome Dove fan, I felt manipulated into reading a book I thought would take me back to the original. Glad it's the last!

Good dialogue, in depth information, a bit slow in parts
A fan of westerns, I enjoyed the depth of information on Comanche Indians and old Texas. Dialogue was never stilted, writing was proficient. I felt there was a long span of time spent in the desert, would have liked a bit more change of scenery, but it's a minor complaint. This was enjoyable reading with believable characters and talented writing.

Jeep Cherokee 1984 Thru 1996 Cherokee Wagoneer Comanche (Haynes Auto Repair Manuals Series)
Published in Paperback by Haynes Publishing (July, 1996)
Authors: Bob Henderson, Haynes Publishing, and John Harold Haynes

not very informative for do it yourselfers
The problem with this book is that it tries to cover a wide range of models in one book. The book gets into the details only to subject the "do it yourselfer" to a surprise i.e the component that they speak of in the book is, either not there in your vehicle or is not at the location where they state in the book. Needless to say working on a typical installation becomes a bit of a guessing game since you do not know what awaits you. The book definately does not cover all inline six models from 1984 to 1996, my truck is 1995 and it don't look anything like what them folks at Haynes are talking about.I wish somebody at Haynes would read this and straighten it out for me.

Liked the book, but....
I've always like the Haynes manuals, but this manual is often wrong. For example, the book said to tighten my rockerarm cap bolts to 19 foot pounds, but the correct specification in 19 inch pounds! Now I have to buy new push rods and hope thats the only damage that was done.

Also, not all the parts mentioned in the book are actually on the car! And it's darn frustrating when the pictures don't match.

I think the best approach would be to have two manuals to compare against each other. Haynes is always the first I'll look to, but from now on I'm going to keep a Chiltons handy.

Comanche Song
Published in Hardcover by Eakin Publications (September, 2000)
Authors: Janice Shefelman and Tom Shefelman
Average review score:

Comanche Song
Comanche Song is about a young indian boy who is going through the difficult process of becoming a man. He has to decide if he is going to resolve things peacefully like his father, Chief Quasia or vengeful like his half-brothers uncle, War Chief Isimanica.
I would recommend this book for a more mature reader because the first three or four chapters I found myself looking back at the character list to keep the characters straight. There are several spanish words throughout the book in which there is a glossary in the back of the book to find the meanings. It took a little patience to read this stereotypical book.
